We first went down to Moab to attempt the Sovereign Single track trail but we ended up doing the Sovereign double track which was all sand except for a few spots. I guess this is what we get for not having a book on the place and just going off memory from some website that explained the directions. We even got directions from a couple we met at the parking lot and they told us to take the first right. We thought we took the correct right but we should have went strait...Ooops. To bad we missed the trail because we have still only heard that the trail is amazing. We were done with that trail for the day so we left for bigger rocks and bigger drops(or so we think). The AMASA BACK.
The trail is a technical trail with some impossible climbs and some fun drops. It was too bad that we just rode around for an hour in sand because are legs were pretty tired for a technical climb but it was worth it. The view from the top is amazing. As you reach the top you turn right along the side of the mountain and ride within feet of a thousand foot strait drop to the canyon below. It felt surreal to look only a few feet to your left and see nothing for thousands of feet. It is a beautiful trail. The best thing was the trip down. We were both spent from riding all day but going down hill gave me new energy and excitement which took me off bigger drops than I have ever done. I can not wait for our next trip to Amasa Back.
The starting of the trail is an awesome staircase down with some good drops through out. It took Ashley and I a few tries to find the right line but we both succeeded. This is Ashley's first attempt at the stair case and at the very bottom she did her signature move. Instead of endoing over her handle bars, she unclips, steps over her handle bars, and as the bike follows and flips she blindly grabs her seat post and with two hands does a perfect gymnastic salute. After the staircase is a good four foot drop which I have not even attempted but Ashley easily does as if it was nothing.
