Parker's Firsts...

First Fire....

We went up to North Fork outside of Ogden. Sadly I had to work that Saturday or we would have camped. Parker was looking good, Gavin was exploring bugs, and we had some amazing tin foil dinners! A success except for the drive up.

First hike....

Ashley and Parker hiked up dry creek as I ran it. Stellar job.

First Blessing...

Ashley's whole family came down. Sadly, no Thompsons were present but they were all there in spirit. The Lovell clan came down and we watched the Sparling Circus, played volleyball until our feet burned, did the alpine slides for a second week in a row, and had delicious homemade pizza. Lovell craziness! The blessing went great...Parker did not cry and luckily Jace, Lee, and Jared kept Parker bouncing as I gave the blessing.

First Camping Trip...

First camping trip was a hit. We explored Big Cottonwood Canyon. Spruces Campground to be exact. We found a secluded campsite and a moose and decided it must be our site. The night went great. Parker did awesome even when I stole a blanket from him because I forgot my sleeping bag. I slept a little cold but not bad considering. Finally got to use those fleece pajamas. Yea!

Parker's First Week

We love you to death already. These are the exact feelings we have for Parker. It is crazy how just a day before your main concern was yourself and your spouse but now your only concern is this little big guy. He is pretty AWESOME!!
Morning stretches. Parker had to be pretty flexible to fit in moms tummy.

 Parkers favorite position to sleep.

Gavin and Parker. Gavin insisted that he lay with parker on the blanket.

May 7th, 2013

Parker Lee Thompson

On Monday evening Ashley was feeling some consistent stronger contractions. Nothing to be worried about but we both hoped these contractions would continue, get stronger and more frequent so we could find out if we were having a boy or girl, and more importantly so we could move on with our lives. So we decided to be proactive by going on a walk (a power walk) but decided to not jump on a trampoline (bad idea), and went to bed.

I went to bed planning to go to work in the morning. I believed if Ashley was really in labor she would not sleep well and would wake me up either needing to go to the hospital or letting me know this was the real deal before I was just about to leave for work. Well I heard nothing and as I found out later she slept great. I woke her up at 6:20am to kiss her good bye and she promptly told me that since she had actually woken up about 20 minutes ago her contractions were five min apart and about 40 sec. long. I quickly packed a bag just in case it was the real deal and apologized as I left for work. In the back of my head I was still doubting she was really going into labor. By 8:30am Ashley had showered, shaved, dressed, packed a bag with everything we needed while in labor and then decided to drive her self to the hospital. She arrived at 9:00am and checked her self in. I was working only next door and promptly tried arranging another nurse to take over my shift. I was down stairs at her side at 10:30am.

Ashley in active labor, no big deal. Candid shot. She barely spent anytime in this bed. It was better walking around or sitting in a chair but they did check to see that the baby was doing okay from time to time.

She arrived at the hospital 6cm dilated and 100% effaced. She held true to her affirmation that she was and is a strong laboring Argentine woman (except not actually Argentine) that can do hard things. She did the whole thing naturally. I arrived and had to take a quick shower because my deodorant was stinky to Ashley. That sniffer. So after the shower I applied almost constant counter pressure as she went through active labor. We walked, we sat, we (meaning Ashley) did awesome. At 1:00pm Ashley was 8.5 - 9cm dilated and wanting to push. The doctor then broke her water at this point and by 1:30pm Ashley really wanted to push and at 1:45 we started pushing. It took awhile to find out how to push but she did great and with some healthy screams Parker Lee Thompson was born at 2:00pm.
Just born on the labor and delivery unit.

He was born 9lb. 8oz. and 21in. long. He did not even come out with a cone head but his face was pretty bruised and swollen. I announced the sex and shortly after cut his cord. We were both teary eyed and full of emotions. Ashley did not know wether to cry, shout for joy, or what. Sadly with a almost 10lb. baby something has to give and Ashley tore pretty bad but in the end mom and baby were doing great.

Parker was a little ashen in the face, hands and feet and I was getting a little nervous but the nurses assured me all was well and to just rub his back and make him cry if I believe he is getting to blue. Luckily for me he pinked up rather quickly.

Shortly after we headed up from labor and delivery to the post partum unit. Ashley and baby were able to do some bonding and they both learned how to nurse.

After his first nursing experience.

Time passed super quickly. Between nursing, getting up to use the restroom, sleeping, eating, Jace, Lindsey and Gavin visiting, and assessments the day had come and gone and Parker had still not received a bath. I got some help and we cleaned the gunk out of his hair, the rest of his body was clean, and we called it a night.

 Parker's first bath.

Good Night!!

....To Nauvoo

My parents left on Wednesday to Nauvoo to be missionaries. They will be serving for 18 months and will be missed. Luckily senior missionaries have a lot more slack and can have cell phones, only have to be in the MTC during the week, and the list can go on. They did have the weekend to do what they liked so they came over on Saturday to be with us. We made some baby blankets using my moms skills and sewing machine to help us. We also went on a hike, ate at Lonestar Taqueria, and played card games.

Spring also sprung while they were here.
It takes a considerable amount of concentration to make a baby blanket.
Our little hike to Ghost Falls.
Our final results.

LA #ugw13

LA....I never thought I would visit this town but turns out it is lots of fun. Luckily we had great friends to show us around. Josh and Becca decided to leave SLC and go to Hollywood, maybe it was for their jobs, or maybe for the continually perfect weather all year round, or the car scene, or maybe because you can buy cupcakes out of ATM's, but for whatever reason we are glad to have visited. We went on a hike, ate great food, drove really fast on fun narrow windy roads, Ashley and her girlfriends had ultimate girls weekend 2013 while Josh and I had ultimate guys weekend 2013, hence the hash tag.

 Pugs not Drugs. La Random
Josh and I played some tennis at the local tennis courts. We played it cool trying to remember the way to keep score (love, zero, duece, add what) while I played in chacos. #ugw13
This car is really fun in the tight windy roads of LA. #ugw13
Us at the top of Escondido Falls north of LA.
Josh and I decided to go ride to the beach from his work place and take his and Becca's bike. I switched the bike to fixed but did not tighten it enough and ended up walking, running, being pushed ect on the bike to make it back to the shop.
The girls went out to eat, ate lots of berries, played in the sand, got some good sun, and enjoyed chatting about the shape shifter.
The canal we road our bike along.
Little loose. Shortly after this the back tired started to lock up on me.

Ashley hates it when people touch her belly, except for me and obviously Becca got away with it here. Anything for a picture.
We also found time to visit the Griffith Observatory. Which had great views of LA and the Hollywood sign.
